Growing up (childhood through college), our family dentist was a relative, so we always knew any recommended work was in our best interest.  Decades later, I’ve been fortunate to have healthy teeth and the added benefit of a brother who practices dentistry (in Manhattan Beach, CA), to offer sound advice.Having lived in San Diego for over a decade, traveling to L.A. for routine dental exams was not realistic for me.  I’ve only needed routine visits with local practices, until recently when I experienced unusual swelling above my #11 tooth.  To spare all readers the details, a local San Diego general dentist nearly extracted my tooth, deeming it “unsavable,” and created an intense sense of urgency to schedule an extraction and replacement implant timeline.  Because of an upcoming heavy professional travel schedule, I needed a swift, correct solution.  I immediately reached out to my brother, who referred me to Dr. Scheines.

Hearing her say “extraction is the last resort” was an immediate relief.  She thoroughly walked me through her findings, referred me to an endodontist to rule out nerve damage (which was successfully cleared), and proceeded with a surgical procedure. Thanks to her, there was no extraction and no lengthy, unnecessary implant process.  I left with the exact same confidence and peace of mind I felt with our family dentist growing up, and that I feel when visiting my brother's practice.

Throughout my 25-year career, I have worked with countless professionals (attorneys, brokers, contractors, and consultants) and I can spot inefficiencies or rash decisions quickly.  But in healthcare, I blindly trusted professionals to guide with integrity.  This experience reinforced in me that not all doctors are the same nor put the patient’s best interest first.  Quality outcomes start with a strong moral compass, then, skill and experience.  CS Periodontics exhibits all of these qualities to name a few.  Thank you to Dr. Scheines and her assistants, David and Sissy, for their unmatched professionalism, trusted guidance, and for making me feel like family.  Traveling over 100 miles to see Dr. Scheines was entirely worth it, and I highly recommend her to anyone in need of a skilled, ethical, and professional periodontist.
